We are Auburn Health Services. The Department for Health Services is a unit of the government of the town of Auburn. We are tasked with providing healthcare to Auburn and the surrounding region, as well as to members of the Auburn Academy community who do not reside within our service area. Due to our relationship with Auburn Academy, we have developed expertise in providing healthcare for paediatric and adolescent patients.
We strive to provide compassionate, inclusive, and patient-centred care to all of our patients. Our services are provided free of charge for those residing in our service area or otherwise covered through service agreements, and at low-cost for those visiting the region.
Auburn Health Services will serve our patients through exemplary care that strengthens our communities and serves as a model for other public health systems.
We are governed by several core values that guide every action and decision:
Compassion
Respect
Inclusivity
Dedication
Innovation
Community
Auburn Health Services started as Auburn Hospital in 2022, housed in the historic hospital building on Meridian Street, near the Auburn Academy Observatory. Auburn Hospital provided emergency services and limited in-patient care to the town of Auburn and Auburn Academy, and was heavily subsidised by Auburn Academy.
In 2024, the town of Auburn established the Department for Health Services (DHS), often known as Auburn Health Services, to expand the operations of Auburn Hospital and consolidate the provision of healthcare in Auburn into one entity. The new DHS took over operations of Auburn Hospital and formed new partnerships with Auburn Academy's Academy Health Services and Counselling and Psychological Services, allowing the integration of services provided at the Auburn Academy Infirmary and Mental Health Centre into DHS operations.
DHS also began construction on a new hospital in the Aviation district with expanded amenities and more beds. The new hospital building was designed with one wing for inpatient care and another for outpatient care, allowing DHS to expand its services to outpatient healthcare. Along with this expansion in services, DHS also increased its free service area to include the entirety of the Heart Lake-Lake Auburn region, positioning itself as the preeminent healthcare provider in the area. Through a new agreement with Auburn Academy, members of the academy community who reside outside of the expanded free service area are also eligible to receive care through DHS for no cost. The new building opened later in 2024, with the hospital renamed to Auburn General Hospital to reflect its expanded role in the region.
